Río Dulce. Private residence. Guatemala. 642 m2
Here its all about the terrace.
An existing summer house is lifted upward through a light steel and wood extension. The social areas rise to a new second level to embrace the river views.
A translucent wooden screen wraps both floors, visually unifying them and tracing a new silhouette against the landscape.
This riverside home is conceived as a sequence of light, floating platforms — architecture that feels both anchored and airborne. Long horizontal roofs extend outward, creating generous shaded terraces that frame the landscape and allow the house to breathe with the climate.
Vertical wooden screens wrap portions of the façade, filtering light with a soft, rhythmic texture. They provide privacy without heaviness, and create a warm contrast to the crisp concrete slabs and white volumes. As the sun moves, the screens cast delicate shadows that animate the interior and exterior spaces.
The upper level opens into a sun terrace carved from the main volume, while the lower level unfolds into an airy, sheltered lounge beside the pool.
Interiors follow the same essential palette — warm woods, soft natural light, and minimal lines that keep the focus on the surrounding nature. Furnishings are simple and tactile, adding comfort without distraction.
